Stephanie Onwenu

Stephanie Onwenu is a visual artist and landscape designer born and raised in Detroit, MI. As an alumna of Michigan State University, Stephanie earned both a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree with a minor in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and a Master of Arts degree in Environmental Design, her commitment and drive not only reflects her knowledge and skills, but demonstrates her exceptional leadership and service advocating for BIPOC individuals at the local, state, and national levels.  Stephanie’s commitment is further exemplified by her advocacy efforts to amplify diverse voices and perspectives nationwide.

She was appointed Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, leading the state chapter’s DEI initiatives from 2020 - 2024, while co-leading the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee efforts. Most recently, she was recognized at the national level for her design and advocacy work in the field as the 2024 ASLA Emerging Professional Medal award recipient. Currently, she works as a Design Associate at JIMA Studio, a landscape architectural design and urban planning studio in Detroit, MI.
